At our house, dessert needs to be prepared quickly and this creamy yogurt Jello hits the mark. While it may not be the prettiest dessert, it was downright delicious and everyone loved it. The fresh blueberries inside added a nice touch but were entirely unnecessary. The creaminess of the yogurt jello reminded me of something from my childhood, something that a Grandma made…
Options for Creamy Yogurt Jello
This dessert harkens back to my childhood when family functions were marked by a delicious pink jello ring. I haven’t been able to reproduce it yet, but this is a great first step. I hope to make this base into something like this Prosecco Jello Tulip, or maybe a fancy Rainbow Jello Trifle. But that’s for another day when I have more than 5 minutes for dessert. As for now, here are a few of the reasons I like this dessert:
- It is inexpensive at $4 to prepare, which is $1 per serving. This could be improved with a club pack of jello mix.
- It is moderately healthy, with the yogurt providing a nice amount of protein and fresh berries providing nutrients.
- Its gluten-free, which is important for a fair portion of my extended family.
- Takes almost no time to prepare, important to me!
- My children devoured it and were impressed with how it looked.
Ingredients & Equipment
Creamy Jello Ingredients
- Jello: From the box, I used off-brand strawberry jello.
- Yogurt: I bought a 2lb container and used half. I used 2% milkfat vanilla greek yogurt. I haven’t tried this with regular yogurt, so I don’t know if it would set up correctly.
- Fruit: Berries are my go-to for mix-ins since they are usually dry on the outside. Grapes, raspberries, blackberries, mulberries, etc. Anything small and “pluckable.”
Equipment
There is no special equipment needed to make this Cream Yogurt Jello. I made it with a whisk, mixing bowl, and 2 small bread pans that I use for tiny meatloaf. If you wanted to get fancy about it (I will definitely be doing this later…) I would suggest getting some jello molds for that over the top presentation.
Preparation
Making Creamy Yogurt Jello
This is an amazingly easy dessert to make. First, add the Jello packet to 1 cup water and heat it in the microwave until fully dissolved. Then stir in 2 cups yogurt. The yogurt acts as the cold water step for the Jello preparation. Last, add your fruit if you’re using any, and pour it into a mold. You could also leave it in the bowl if you’re not feeling fancy. Place in the refrigerator for 4 hours or more.
Releasing the Jello from the Mold
The optional last step is inverting the Jello onto a plate or platter and releasing it from the mold. Dip the mold in warm water for 15 seconds and invert onto the plate. This Jello has a very low melting point so it released very quickly for me. If it doesn’t quite release just give it a little bit and tap it every now and then. If you were thinking ahead you could have greased the mold and it should come out much easier.

Notes
- This will be the base for other recipes like layered jello cakes, jello molds, etc. I’ll add them here as I find/ come up with them.
- Basically, the yogurt acts as the cold water step for the jello to set up.
- Acidic foods will disrupt the setting of the Jello and should be avoided.
- The melting point of this dessert is quite low. The hot water step for removal from the mold seems unnecessary.
