The Tough Months
October was a challenging month for this dad and the family. There was a lot of full time job work this month and I missed a couple deadlines for publishing our adventures. It’s a bummer and shows in the page views, but such is life. November is a new month.
Finding recipes to write about that are my own is very difficult. The internet is vast and almost every recipe has been done, so I’m not really creating anything unique. Instead, I am cooking recipes and seeing how the family responds. Anything that makes anyone say, “Holy crap, that’s good,” immediately gets a post.
Expenses
Still no new costs to mention. Almost all plugins have a premium feature which costs money, and working without those is tricky. I am hitting a wall where a certain plugin fails at something, so I have to find an alternative. It’s frustrating when I cant find something that can do exactly what I want, and I burned a lot of time searching for an app needed to do a simple function.
For instance, posting to social media. There are many apps which say they can post to all the social media platforms automatically, but I haven’t found any that work yet. It’s frustrating and I can still do it by hand, but posting to facebook, instagram, and pinterest is a bit of a battle when you are publishing twice a week.
Income
There was no income to report this month for October. I am going to throw a party when this happens, even a penny, but until then I am keeping my head down and producing the best content I can. For now, I am producing content as there is a direct correlation between content creation and how many people come through from social media posts.
- Bluehost: As my hosting website, they are doing a great job. I totally recommend them if you are starting a website. Their customer service has really helped me solve some issues this month.
- Amazon affiliate: I am eyeing this program as I approach 1000 visitors per month. Right now I am using the smile.amazon links as placeholders for now. Looking forward to implementing this and see what comes of it.
- Advertising program: I am still searching for an ad company to partner with to get ads on the borders of my website and possibly generate some income. The biggest companies in website advertising require 10,000 pageviews a month, which is well outside of my reach for now.
Recipes
This month I missed my goal of publishing twice a week by 2 articles. Life just got in the way, and I didnt have the follow through to get more posted. I was also dealing with some technical difficulties that are plaguing the site, and eating up my time fighting with them. November will be a new month, and I hope to get back on track. The good news is I have a heap of half written recipes which should come out fairly quickly in the end.
